Illuminating Hadrian's Wall

Osprey Communications has been helping to illuminate Britain's longest, and greatest, World Heritage Site.

Osprey handled the public relations for the Illuminating Hadrian's Wall event which took place on 13th March 2010.

Over 1,000 volunteer Illuminators created a chain of 500 lights along the 84-mile long Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail.

Osprey secured coverage in media across the UK and overseas.  China Central TV and German ZDF were among those filming the event as the line of light made its way from coast to coast.

BBC news 24 covered the event live and the BBC and Sky both ran the story through to the following morning.  BBC Countryfile ran two features on the preparations the weekend before the event.

There were stories about Illuminating Hadrian's Wall in most of the national papers and The Guardian even ran a double page photo of the event.

Osprey also set up and helped to run a Facebook page and Twitter profile.  The Facebook page attracted more than 4,000 fans and on Twitter Emperor Hadrian had over 700 followers.

Managing Director Paul Gardner says: "It's been a great experience for the whole team being involved in an event that has generated so much enthusiasm.  We were working flat out in the month before the event but the results made it all worthwhile.

"It's also been rather interesting Tweeting as the Emperor Hadrian!  Social media has played a huge part in the success of Illuminating Hadrian's Wall, helping to recruit the volunteer Illuminators and to capture the imagination of so many people in the event."

Illuminating Hadrian’s Wall was an ambitious project led by Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd (HWHL).  Neil Carney, the Marketing Manager at HWHL says: “We are delighted with the coverage achieved for Illuminating Hadrian’s Wall. Osprey demonstrated a logical strategic approach in developing an effective communications strategy that turned a simple idea into one that really captured the imagination of the media. Without doubt, the success of the event would not have been achieved without their support and guidance.”
