Osprey short listed for top award

Osprey has been short listed by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) for an award in the north west.

The CIPR’s PRide Awards celebrate excellence in the communications industry.  The winners in each category will be announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester in November.

Osprey has been short listed for its work with Lakes Alive – a four year programme of outdoor/street arts events happening across Cumbria to help celebrate the Olympics coming to the UK.

The campaign included an advertising campaign on Lake District lambs and staging a street arts marathon around Cumbria.

Osprey’s MD Paul Gardner, who was previously a journalist at the BBC and an adviser at the Treasury, says: “There is considerable competition for these awards, so we’re delighted to have been short listed for an award again this year. It's been great fun working with the team at Kendal Arts International to help promote the amazing Lakes Alive events. The fact that we have been short listed is recognition not just of our work but also reflects their enthusiasm and willingness to take risks both with their events programme and the PR.”

Lakes Alive is being organised by Kendal Arts International.  Julie Tait, the director of Kendal Arts International, says: “Public relations plays a vital role in making sure that as many  people as possible know about events like ours.  Osprey's work for  Lakes Alive was as inventive and quirky as the events it was promoting and captured the imaginations of a wide range of media.”

Osprey won the award for the Outstanding Small Consultancy in 2007, a Gold Award for the best Low Budget Campaign in 2005 and was short listed for the Best Use of Media Relations in 2006 and 2008.

Ann Mealor, CIPR Acting Director General, says: “This year more than ever, consultancies and organisations entering the PRide Awards want to spotlight their achievements while boosting morale - and being a PRide finalist does just that.  Having gone through rigorous judging to reach the shortlist is a great achievement and I offer my congratulations to all those who have reached this stage of the competition.”

Osprey’s clients include Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd, regional retailer Booths, the Forestry Commission in the North West and the West Midlands, English Lakes Hotels, the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and Muncaster Castle.

Eric Robson says: “I’m delighted that Osprey has been short listed for this award.  The team has put in a lot of hard work and this shows once again that it is possible to get the very best public relations services in Cumbria.”
